Just Dave Band (soon to be named “JD Bernal & the Dirt Road Scholars”) is a traveling country-rock-roots band from Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley. Led by Dave “JD” Bernal, the band’s loud, raw, and unrelenting show gives it the edge country needs, while showing loving respect to the outlaw greats that shaped it!
JD has played harmonica on the stages of American Idol and 30 Seconds to Fame. His harmonica is also currently featured on the new Discovery Channel series, “Sons of Guns”, as well as on plenty of regional and national albums.
Growing up in the Northern California small town of Grass Valley, Dave experienced country living, with a little hippie community attitude mixed in.
It’s probably what shaped his sound.
The music blends a high-energy rhythm attack with laid-back, warm vocals, and frenzied harmonica/guitar soloing to accompany. The combination of JD’s “bigger-than-his-body” voice, with a rock edged band, bring a new twist to the world of the classic country troubadour sound.
JD is happy to call California’s San Fernando Valley home, which serves as a backdrop for many of his original songs. Many are a tribute to the “Laurel Canyon sound” made famous by singers and songwriters of the 1960s.
After all it has accomplished (and soon, after a major name change in the works), the best days lay ahead for Just Dave Band and the Dirt Road Scholars. With casinos, festivals, opening and headlining slots in the works, this year promises to be bigger, and rowdier than ever!
